Contest Explanation

  • The purpose of this contest is to find an Aggie Innoventor who, through the use of creativity and innovation, crafts an idea that – when developed – will solve a problem related to campus life and/or university attendance.
  • The idea does not have to be in final product form when presented, though any relevant drawings, models, depictions, power points, or pertinent explanations will be required for the purpose of judging.
  • The application procedure will involve a brief questionnaire pertaining to student information and then a space to depict the invention that will be submitted.
  • All applicants will enter their idea into one of two strands:
    • Creative Problem Solving: Creative improvements to processes or procedures
    • Inventions that solve a problem or bring improvement
  • When all applications have been gathered, the CIA student committee and the Board of Directors of the Institute for Applied Creativity will convene and select 10 entries from each category to advance to the semi-final round in the contest. Semi-finalists will be notified by March 13, 2009.
  • Semi-finalists will have two weeks in which to prepare their idea for a THREE minute initial presentation to the CIA judging panel. The 5 finalists from each strand (10 total) will be chosen the week of March 30th – April 2nd.
  • On the evening of April 16th (to correspond with Creativity Week) all finalists will present their ideas at a public event (4 minutes MAX) to a final judging panel, who will select the 2 top ideas from each mini-group (4 total).
  • The Next Great Aggie Innoventer WINNER will be chosen that same evening by a campus vote from those who are in attendance in the audience. The winner will receive the "Maroon Carrot" award, and the title of "Aggie Innoventor" for 2009.
